I can't get my open faced fishing reel to cast. What do I do?

I have used an open faced reel countless times. My new one that I bought won't cast. I have tried everything I can think of. It feels like it locks up. I have even ran the line down the pole several times. It came with the line on the reel. Could the line be on the reel wrong?

If there's a loop or a knot on the line, there's a possibility that your casting distance will be cut short. Twisted lines will form loops on spinning reels and those loops could be buried somewhere under the line. Cast your line out as far as you can then strip more the line out by hand. You don't need to strip too much line. If there's a loop or a knot buried under the line, you should be able to spot it rather quickly. Once you got the loop untangled, your casting distance should improve. It is better to strip your line directly into the water. If you strip your line on dry land, there's a higher chance that the line will form into a ball and tangle.
