Help with baitcaster reel?
I have been fishing with a spinning reel all my life. I bought a baitcaster a while back but never really used it. I just got it out yesterday and tried it out, yet birdnests. I am using a 1/8 oz. bullet weight with a 6 inch yum dinger? I also use nightcrawlers with no weight, which is extremely hard to cast. I can cast other lures like cranks and swimbaits but can't cast anything thats light. Is it because my lure is too light? Any suggestions?
Yes, the lighter the weight, the more difficult to cast. As mushroom said, adjust the knob, on the other side from the handle, press the spool release button and turn the knob till the weight you have on just begins to drop. Hold the rod as close to perpendicular as you can. This should help the backlash. Also if you rest your thumb lightly against the spool as you cast, that will also help reduce backlash.
