What do Americans think of Rugby?
Was over in Penn State there while back (We are...) and all the American Lads we were hanging round with were absolutely mad into Rugby. I love American Football btw but Rugby is the game for me.
But on-line a lot of Americans seem to call it a game for wimps or some other deleted expletive. I'm wondering how many of these people would have seen it played at Professional/International level.

First of all -- nice highlight reel, but at least a few of those hits were clearly illegal. I suspect that they didn't choose to show the red card that surely followed in some of those situations.
That said -- well seeing as the sport gets virtually no coverage in North America, (you need a specialty channel to see the game) not many Americans will be more than vaguely familiar with the sport. If you went off on a "man-on-the-street" interview in any American city, I suspect that most people would have difficulty naming a single rugby player or team. The situation is better here in Canada, where many high schools now have a rugby squad, but not a whole lot better.
The highest level of rugby in the 'states right now is called Rugby Superleague (even though they play the union code). It has twelve teams, but is only a semi-pro league. Most of the best players on the national squads in both the USA and Canada play full-time in Europe, mostly for second rank professional squads -- like the new Guinness Championship level teams. There are a few in the top ranked leagues -- the Guinness Premiership (England), Magner's League (Ireland, Scotland and Wales), the French Top-14 and the Italian Top-Ten.
I also understand that there is a plan in the works to get a professional Rugby League league going in the 'states (League is more similar to American gridiron than Union), but nothing has yet come of that.
