Speeding Radar Myths - Don't Use These As Defenses In Traffic Court
There are many myths about speeding tickets when pulled over from a radar reading. These aren't going to help you at all if you try to use them in court.
Myth: Radar guns don't work accurately in bad weather like rain and clouds.
Radar guns do in fact work well when weather conditions are extremely poor. For example, radar works very well to track airplanes even when there are severe thunderstorms or fog. These are much worse conditions than what a cop would use to track your speed.
Myth: Using a radar detector will prevent you from getting speeding tickets.
There are two problems with this myth. First of all, radar technology changes as well as radar detectors. Police keep track of what basic technology is detecting their radars and the guns are changed over time. Even if your detector works right now, it will have to be constantly upgraded.
The second issue about radar detectors is that cops use more than just radar to pull you over for speeding like lasers. You could detect radar but not all the other methods.
Myth: Heavy chains hung from the rear view mirror, aluminum foil on the license plate, and special paints on the car or tires keep radar guns from detecting your speed.
There aren't combinations of paints, foils, or other metals that disrupt radar readings. If this were the case, there is already plenty of metal in other cars, street lights, and signs. If metal threw off the readings, the readings would constantly be off. The other problem with this is that you would have to admit in court that you attempted to throw off radar readings making it seem that the point of doing so was so that you could speed and not get caught.
