What brand baitcasting rod should I buy for largemouth bass fishing?
I've been looking at a Pflueger echelon rod and reel combo at a local outdoor shop and they are about $105.00. Is there another brand I could get for the same price that might be better? I've heard the Pfluegers are good. I'm used to using a spinning rod, but I've used a baitcaster before. I'm aiming to catch a biggg bass this spring/summer and I need a rod that can handle some bigger line so I can man handle these fish lol
I trust Abu Garcia, Cabelas, Bass Pro, Pflueger, and a few others. Here's is the combo that i would get for that price range -
#1 Abu Garcia Black Max - http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_100763_100001001_100000000_100001000_100-1-1 It says it's capacity is 12 lb. line, but i always exceed that. It just makes it where you don't have as much line. Dude, i really couldn't find a cheap reel with a big line capacity, that is the biggest capacity, and best looking, reel i seen.
#2 Ugly Stik Lite - http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_22372____SearchResults?ordProd=Y&CMID=BOTTOM_selectitems#itemDetail The 7' MH action rod is your best choice. Even though it's not the highest priced rod at $40, it's a pretty good one. As i said MH is good for a baitcaster and big fish.
#3 Stren Monofilament - http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_21616____SearchResults?ordProd=Y&CMID=BOTTOM_selectitems#itemDetail I think it's a great line for baitcasters, and the 14 lb. low-vis clear would be perfect.
That's a total of about $95, i think that's a great deal.
Happy fishing.
