Right fishing lure?
i have a zebco 33 reel on a 6' graphite rod spooled with 10 lb monofilament line. what is a good lure for this setup? i've been using rebel teeny crawfish 1/9 oz, but do i need something a little heavier to catch bigger fish? i fish mostly in shallow water so i don't need a deepwater lure. something in the 1-5 ft range would be good.
Your outfit is okay and will handle most big game fish. I suggest that you remove the 10lb. test line and replace it with 8lb. test. You will get longer and smoother casts with your lighter lures with less effort. The 33 is a slow retreive reel which makes it an ideal for worm fishing and top water lures. Try some Culprit 7.5 inch Red Shad worms on 4/0 and 5/0 worm hooks, bass love them. As for top water lure try a few Scum Frog poppers & Walking bass rats, Rapala J-11 jointed lures, and Snag Proof's - Moss Mouse & Bobby's Perfect Frog. If you would like to see a couple nice bass caught on a Zebco 33 go to http://www.acmedamfishing.com. The third picture from the top on the Home page and the first picture on the float tube pricing. I also witnessed the same guy land a few decent sized pike with the same set-up I described above. Good Fishing
