Has anyone else targeted carp with a light-action rod?
Maybe i'm going crazy but, i decided to bring my light-action rods out for some carpin' ... I had a Zebco 202, Shakespeare SC-15, and some other cheap rod/reel combo ... Boy, was that fun!!! I caught about 3 or 4 carp a day when i did that ... (I did it quite often.) I ended up taring up the 202, which was already old. But, the others have had no problems since. Anyone else ever caught a carp on a light-action rod/reel???
best tackle to use.
l even got one on just a light push-button reel and 4lb line with NO rod. weighed 22 pounds. took a half hour to land but l did it.
got a 15 pounder on a bass topwater (a sammy), that almost spooled my curado l was using. was certain at first l had THE bass. but they fight differently and it didn't take long to realize l wasn't into a bass. l almost cried but still enjoyed the 10 minute fight. no 15lb bass would have fought as hard. more spectacular, sure, but for brute strength, a carp wins, hands down.
