What is a good saltwater reel under $80?

I don't care what type of reel
I would prefer it to have quality ball bearings
and please give your experience with the reel
i fish on a coastal boat, maybe 2-3 miles offshore near jacksonville, florida
I usually fish with 12-15 pound line
Thanks
now thinking about a cabelas baitcast spinning reel 310/15 good enough for me. if u have any more info about this reel or anything else please answer

I agree partly with BC, (thumbs up).

The Daiwa, Black Gold is def "sea worthy". BG 20's and 30's are a common sight on Charter Capt's boats all over Florida.

However, the Abu Garcia C4 5600 is too light for most fishing 2-3 miles off of J-ville. You will need a bigger reel, (period).

Here are some suggestions-

1. Shimano, Charter Special- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_7934_151001003_151000000_151001000?cmCat=CROSSSELL_THUMBNAIL

2. Shimano, Speedmaster- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_2228____SearchResults

I lived in J-ville for 30 years. If your targeting Offshore reefs and trolling Nearshore waters along the beaches, your gonna come across some big fish and the LOWEST diameter you would want to use would be 15LB! No one uses 12LB's Offshore unless there catching bait with a Sabiki rig......(or looking to break a light-tackle record).

It isn't uncommon for 20-30 LB Kingfish, 4-6FT Sharks, 25-30LB Redfish, monster Jack Crevalle, Cobia, Drum, Tarpon, Spanish Macs, Etc, Etc, Etc to be just outside the Surf Zone. Any of these fish would be best caught on (at least) 15LB line.

As you head further offshore (near the wrecks), Grouper, Sails, BIGGER Kingfish, AJ's, Etc, Etc, Etc, require even heavier line, (and heavier Tackle/outfits).

If you are looking to score offshore and need some inexpensive outfit's think about purchasing two Speedmaster's (with Stand-up rods) and a couple BG 30's, (with Ugly Stik Big Water Rods- http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_19912____SearchResults ).

That should set you up for any Trolling or Bottom fishing you might want to do. If you fish with lighter tackle and lines, either you will get spooled OR you will have to chase down the fish you catch.

Hope this helps ya? Catch some big ones at the Jettys for me! And good luck!
