i have a penn silverado 4000 open face spinning rod and reel with no line on it, how do i put the line on?

Basically what jonyraven said. To attach the line, open the bail, create an "arbor knot". this is a slip knot with an overhand knot in the tag end. Place the loop around the spool, pull tight and clip the tag end. Close the bail and crank the handle to fill the spool with line.
