Light or Ultralight Rod & Reel For Trout Fishing?
I fish in a river for rainbow trout about 6-12 inches and I lose a lot of fish due to the lack of sensitivity of my rod. Currently I'm using a Light 5'6 Abu Garcia Cardinal rod and reel. I'm thinking about going to a 6'6 or 6'0 Ultralight rod and reel.
Anyone have any rods that they can recommend me? If the rod and reel can be under a 100 bucks that would be nice. (I like the cork on my rod but if I can't get that I wont complain)
Thanks everyone.
Try a 7' or 7'6" Daiwa Spinmatic spinning rod. The rod got a cork handle and it is sensitive. This rod is very well made and it got features not found on rods around the same price range. The line guides were almost custom tied to the blank and your line will flow through those lines guides very easily. Your casting distance and sensitivity will improve but you will also have problems casting lures heavier than recommended lure weight. If you cast lures slightly heavier than recommended lure weight, there is a possibility that your line will snap. Being a graphite ultra-light noodle rod, this rod won't be the most durable rod available. If you want to use lines heavier than recommended, you'll probably kill it. So, a little pampering is recommended. Just treat it like a St. Corix and it will not give you problems. As for reels, many Shimano front drag spinning reels in 500 size range will work well with this rod. This setup is under $100 and it is comparable to combos that cost more than twice as much.
