Penn sargus spinning reel?
Well yeah as you can see i am interested in purchasing the Penn Sargus spinning reel, i like the sg6000. I wanted to get it with the 7' penn slammer rod and well i want to use this for live bait off my local pier and off my friends boat. Should i put 20 lb power pro braid onto this beast?If so how much would it hold?the sargus itself is 17/230 with mono.I enjoy light tackle and well what would be the species i can target with this baby?
Heh, you can target anything. I don't know about the sargus specifically, but I can say that the captiva reel sucks. Stick with the older SS reels, they are much better quality and can take a hell of a beating.
In my humble opinion, braided line on light rods isn't worth sh**. It lays flat and casts well, but it can cut guides if you hook anything significant. Its fine for little fish like largemouth bass that don't really fight, but for saltwater dudes go with mono. Anything that maxes out that reel is going to overpower your drag no matter what line you have on there.
Spool it up with 12lb ande, I'll bet you will get 300+ yards on there. go line to line and crank on a few yards of your choice of fluoro leader and you're set.
