The Worlds Most Poisonious Animals

The Poison Dart Frog

The Poison Dart Frog is the most poisonous animal in the world, at only two inches in length it has the the capability to kill 10 men. There are many different species of Poison Dart Frog and they are all found in the South Americas countries. These frogs vary in colour depending on their diet and habitat these frogs can be a single colour or a multitude of colours of bright blues, greens, reds, pinks, yellows and oranges.

They aquire their venom from their food source such as ants and termites. The ants and termites eat the leaves of poisonous plants which produces the toxin inside the frogs body, then the frog sweats out the venom through its pours covering the frogs body in a deadly toxin that is highly fatal if mixed with blood. Animals of the Amazon forest recognize the bright colours of the frog and just pass it by. In fact everything brightly coloured in the Amazon has some level of poison be it animal, plant or berry and should be avoided at all costs unless you know what it is.

The Puffer Fish

The second most poisonous animal on the planet is the Puffer Fish. The Puffer Fish has the capability of puffing up by filling itself with air, as they puff out their spikes extrude making it imposable for predators to swallow or bite. Their spikes also hold a very dangerous toxin that has the power to kill a human between 4 to 24 hours, there is no known antidote to counter act their poison. Over the past 40 years there has been as many incidents annually where humans have been poisoned by either coming in contact with the fish, six of which annually have died.

The Puffer Fish has also ended up on menus across Korea and Japan. Even when dead the puffer fish still holds its poison in its skin and organs so eating this fish is just as dangerous as getting pricked by it. Only licensed chefs can prepare this fish for human consumption but down through the years there has been many people that have died by eating it without knowing the correct way to prepare it.

The Salamander

The third most poisonous animal on the planet is the salamander just like the Poison Dart Frog they live in Southern American Countries, but they have similarities in the way that they produce their poison. Like the Dart Frog Salamanders eat ants and beetles that feed on poisonous plants, their bodies produce the venom through their sweat glands. This poison is produced for defense against predators but also to keep them moist in the blistering heat.

There are over 500 different species of salamander ranging in lengths of 2.7 cm to 1.8 meters and weights of 5 grams to 65 kg. Salamanders only produce their venom in the wild where they are feeding on these insects that ingest poisonous plants. Some salamanders have lungs and some have gills that are placed on the side of their heads. Salamanders also have the capability to regenerate lost limbs, if they lose a limb due to predators attacking them they simply grow it back.

Blue Ringed Octopus

From Japan to Australia there is a small octopus that is highly poisonous, it could kill 26 adult humans within 30 minutes. This doesn't mean that it goes around looking for people to kill but they populate rock pools that litter the shorelines of both Australia, Japan and every island in between. Humans come in contact with these octopus by trying to lift them out of rock pools with their hands which results in them being stung. Their poison attacks the muscles effecting your body where in minutes it reaches the heart ultimately killing you.

The Blue Ringed Octopus is not much bigger than the one in the image above, because of its size people don't think that it is dangerous. Many deaths have been reported from this octopus from crab fishers that scour the rock pools for shrimp and crabs. These octopus are well adapted for their surroundings and are masters of keeping out of sight so be careful when you are exploring rock pools in these areas.

The Inland Taipan

The Inland Taipan is the most venomous snake in the world its venom is 400 times greater than the common King Cobra. A single spoonful of its venom could kill 100 adult humans when bitten you will have 45 minutes to inject the anti venom before your nervous system shuts down every part of your body. Inland Taipans have not been reported for killing humans because they are very shy. The Inland Taipans can grow up to 2.5 meters in length but it prefers to try and get away from predators rather than attack them.

Inland Taipans are found in Australia during the warmer months they are a bright colour like the image above and during the colder months they change colour to a darker shade like the image below. The Taipan does this to reflect light in the summer and absorb the heat in the winter months because black attracts the heat. Unlike other snakes it doesn't try and choke its prey which is mostly made up of rodents, instead it strikes is victim injecting it with its venom, then leaves it to die, it then returns to ingest it safely.

The Brazilian Wandering Spider

The Brazilian Wandering Spider holds the crown for the most venomous all of the worlds spiders. In the past few years the Guinness Book Of Records features this spider as the deadliest spider in the whole world. It is native to South and Central American states. It is called the wandering spider because it wanders the jungle floor instead of residing in a web like most spiders. The wandering spider has a leg span of 4-5 inches and a body mass of 1.9 inches in length.

Brazilian Wandering Spiders only hunt at night making them virtually invisible by their prey, during the day they hide in any crevice that they can find. These spiders have made their way into peoples homes across the region during the night and hide wherever they can, they become dangerous when people try and remove them. A single bite could cause inflaming of the area but it causes muscles to seize up including males penises to become erect, the bitten area becomes extremely painful and organs fail resulting in death.

The Box Jellyfish

The Box Jellyfish is the most advanced of all the Jellyfish instead of drifting in the currents it is able to move as it pleases through the water. The Box Jellyfish is able to travel through the water at a speed of 4 knots an its also able to see where its going. The jellyfish gets its name the Box Jellyfish because its in the shape of a cow bell, each corner has at least 15 tentacles that can stretch up to 3 meters in length. Not only can it see but it can see on all four sides, they have a cluster of six eyes on each side enabling it to have 360 degree vision. In every group of eyes there are a pair that have a sophisticated cornea, lens, retina and iris so they can distinguish the size and distance of their prey.

The Box Jellyfish's venom is considered one of the worlds most powerful, they developed this venom to instantly kill prey such as fish and shrimp. People have died by getting stung by this jelly fish, the venom attacks the your skin cells, nervous system and you heart. The venom is designed to kill its prey instantly without struggle, in humans people have gone into shock while out swimming and drown before ever reaching the shore. Each one of its tentacles has over 5000 stingers on them and if came in contact with the human skin it will scar for a very long period and be extremely painful even weeks after the attack. These Jellyfish inhabit the Northern Coast of Australia and the Indian Ocean.
