The Grocery Store Shopping Cart Tells All

What’s in your shopping cart at the grocery store?

Whatever you have in that cart will tell the story of whether or not you eat healthy foods.

It will also reveal how much you and your family are overweight.

And the correlation is all too revealing. Here’s what your cart reveals about you and your eating habits.

Are you pushing one of the giant carts?

Let’s see it’s full of 40 or so soft drinks, some chips, some cookies and other sweets, some TV dinners, some frozen pizzas, all the stuff you need to keep house, paper plates and cups so you don’t have to do dishes or cook, and a LOT of junk food.

THAT’S a cart for someone who is overweight, dieting all the time and not losing weight.

But there is another kind of grocery cart.

It’s a small cart that makes stops at the fruit and vegetable aisle, shorter stops at the meat and dairy aisle and then gets the stuff to keep house. It may wander through the plain frozen fruits and vegetable aisle. Then it goes by tea and coffee, 2 of the great pleasures of life.

And then we all head for check out.

Every one always claims that eating organic food makes the grocery bill higher. But the cost of fresh organic fruits, vegetables, dairy and even meats is far less than a bunch of pre-prepared foods and sweets and soft drinks.

That big cart costs some serious money. And sadly, there is no good healthy food in it either. There is however plenty of empty calories, sugar, fat and salt. And the people who are eating that shoddy food are usually overweight and getting fatter every day. And they are paying a lot of money to the grocery store buying food that makes them fat and sick. They are also paying more for health insurance, life insurance and medical care.

But the people with the little cart eat different foods. They actually look for quality food and enjoy preparing it and eating it.

They also get exercise, stay slimmer and even prepare their pets’ food from scratch as well as their own.

Their home has some snacks that are prepared from healthier ingredients, but their emphasis is on preparing healthy foods and getting great flavors to the table.

It’s not the grocer’s fault you aren’t buying good food. It’s your responsibility to feed yourself and your family. The grocery store is going to sell and stock whatever people want to buy.

But why not study nutrition a little. It’s really important for you and your family to eat a healthy diet. Counting calories is not as important as eating really good foods. And they are in the same grocery store where you have been buying junk food.

One sure fire way to get kids to eat fruits and vegetables is to serve them as raw, uncooked snacks. The flavors in raw vegetables are milder and friendlier to sensitive palates kids have. And all these things have more nutrients than cooked foods have.

Most people eat way more meat and fat than they really need in a healthy diet. But they don’t get the other nutrients they need to be healthy.

Work harder to see to it that you and yours get all the nutrients you need for a healthy life. WHAT you eat really matters to good health.
