Candles Add Warmth And Comfort To Your Home
If you're decorating on a budget - and who isn't these days, candles are the perfect reasonably priced ornament to add friendliness, comfort, and style to your home. If you haven't been shopping for candles lately, you may be amazed at the variety of types of candles that are available. Here's just a small sample of some types available:
Taper Candles
Taper candles are the conventional candles that fit in candlestick holders and add a touch of romance or elegance to the dinner or dining board. They're perfect for weddings, as taper candles come in a wide variety of colors that complement autumn, spring, and summer weddings. Although taper candles are available in a range of sizes, the normal length is 12 inches or 30cm. When looking around for taper candles, look for those that are perfume free, do not put off any smoke and do not drip. You don't want the scent of the candles to overpower your dinner guests' palates, and you certainly don't want wax pools on your good table cloth!
Votive Candles
Votive candles are wonderfully diverse. Once associated only with churches, today votive candles are a wonderful addittion to the home. When placed in votive candleholders, you don't have to worry about wax drips and puddles. Because of their small size, more is generally better. Place a few around your bathtub and take pleasure in the sumptuous feeling of a relaxing bath by candlelight. Set them up in varying positions on your fireplace mantle to add a soft glow to your dining or living room. Votive candles also come in a good range of scents, so you can manipulation the feeling of your room. Go toward a strong smell of flowers such as magnolias in the summertime and then the warm scent of vanilla in Winter.
Globe Candles
The round shape of globe candles can add the perfect piece of elegance to your home decor. They are available in a nice variety of colors to complement your decorating scheme, and are quite often subtly scented to add a fresh or warm ambiance to your home.
Pillar Candles
As their name suggests, pillar candles are chunky columns, candles that are the perfect inexpensive home fashion accessory. Because they come in any number of varying heights, pillar candles are perfect for arranging in sets. Remember to always use three or five candles when creating a pillar candle setting, as the odd number draws the eye's attention and is aesthetically pleasing.
Floating Candles
If you have a pool, consider incorporating some floating candles into your party decorations. At night time, the light on the water has a wonderous effect, one that will go to make your party remembered by everyone. Whether you're serving appetizers or a feast in the open air or whether your dining area looks over the backyard, floating candles will grab the attention and imagination of your party friends.
Tin Candles
If your work sees you traveling, you no doubt get tired of of sterile hotel and motel rooms. Travel candles come in packages with covers and allow you to take a bit of home with you on the road. Tin candles come in a selection of scents from chocolate and vanilla to green tea and ginger and in a small size that is easy to tuck into your suitcase or overnight bag.
Candle Sconces
A sconce is a type of light fixture attached to a wall in such a way that it uses only the wall for its support and the light is usually aimed up toward the ceiling. It does not have a base on the ground. The word Candle Sconce applies both to traditional forms of torch lighting but also to modern gas and electric light sources affixed in the same way.
Contemporary electric light fixture sconces are often used in hallways or internal walkways to provide both light and point of interest in a long passage. Sconce height in a passageway is generally 3/4 of the way up the wall and the distance between sconces on a wall is generally equal to the distance of the sconces from the floor often on alternating sides of the passageway. Sconce size should be scaled to ceiling height
