Choosing Tackle Boxes for Fishing

You might have years and years of fishing lures and gear or you might be new to the fishing scene, either way there are fish tackle boxes that will fit your needs. With many different styles and options in the tackle box industry it can be tough to pick just one fish tackle box that will work for your needs. From kids tackle boxes, stowaways, tackle systems, fly boxes, and double sided boxes this guide will help you in understanding the features and benefits of each kind of tackle box.

Kids Tackle Boxes

Tackle boxes designed for kids are easy to access and hold a minimal amount of tackle and gear. These boxes are great for kids or even the occasional fisher who doesn't have a lot of gear to carry around.

Double Sided Tackle Boxes

A double sided tackle box works great for the majority of recreational fishermen who may just fish a few times a year. With multiple storage compartments and a bulk storage area these tackle boxes will hold a good amount of lures, weights, hooks, and even fishing line. Many different sizes of double sided boxes are made so when buying consider how much gear you currently have and try to anticipate future lure purchases.

Compartment/Stowaway Tackle System Boxes

Compartment or stowaway tackle systems utilize multi storage boxes usually with customizable compartment sizes. A bag is included in most tackle systems but stowaway boxes can be purchased by themselves and stored in a bag of your choice for the fisher with large amounts of tackle. Tackle systems usually come with their own bag that has a carry handle and anywhere from 4+ storage boxes.

Single Tray Tackle Boxes

A single tray tackle box is the next step up from a kids tackle box with more advanced storage trays and space. Durability is usually better on these boxes when compared to children tackle boxes. These tackle boxes are great for the fisher that only focuses on one type of fish and thus has more specific and lower quantities of hooks and weights.

Fly Boxes

These boxes are designed for storing and protecting your dialect fly fishing flies when you are headed out to the stream or your favorite fishing spot. Almost all of these boxes whether plastic or metal have foam inserts inside for added protection but there are magnetic versions on the market also. Most of theses boxes are very small and designed to hold around 30 or so flies for easy transport and access from a fishing vest or wader pocket. Larger fly boxes are also available for storing numerous amounts of flies but most aren't intended for use on the stream due to size.
